Many of research challenges require the use of traditional as well sophisticated analytical techniques such as UV-Visible, Vibrational Spectroscopy (IR, Raman), NMR spectroscopy (liquid and solid state), Mass spectroscopy, AAS, ICAP, XRD, ESCA, Separation Sciences (GC, LC, GPC etc.), and Thermal analysis. However, today, we see these techniques being applied in such diverse fields as forensic science, quality assurance, drug discovery, process controls, occupational exposure science and nano-technology. It is the many diverse facets of analytical sciences that allow it to play such an integral role in addressing today’s numerous scientific challenges.
With an aim to bring the experts together dealing with the diverse aspects of analytical science in the various research discipline of science and Technology, a “Two Day 2nd National Symposium on Analytical sciences” with the theme “ Analytical Innovations for Process and Technology Development.” is being organized from Nov. 24-25th, 2008 at IHBT, Palampur, (HP) jointly by the Indian Society of Analytical Scientists (ISAS) – Delhi Chapter and Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT), Palampur (HP).
The National symposium endeavors to provide a common platform to the academicians, researchers and industrialists engaged in the development of various processes and technology. Building upon the theme, the Symposium will emphasize coupling the latest advancements in analytical techniques, instrumentation and applications in various fields of chemical, biological and allied sciences. Through the symposium, the organizers aim to highlight the analytical challenges faced by Technology developers for the process optimization, cost economics and meeting environment challenges in the context of Nation and Society.
The technical Programme of the symposium will include both invited lectures, oral and poster presentations. Many eminent scientists will deliver lectures highlighting latest advancement in various analytical techniques and their applications

Indian Society of Analytical Scientists (ISAS) is a very active scientific forum with its headquarters at BARC, Mumbai and has more than 2000 life members. The society provides a common platform for Analytical scientists to exchange ideas, keep themselves abreast of the latest developments in this field, thus promoting growth of analytical sciences in the country. The Delhi Chapter of ISAS was established in 1992 with its headquarter at Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., R&D Center having jurisdiction comprising of mainly northern part of India. Delhi Chapter itself has more than 850 life members from various research institutes, national laboratories, universities, industry etc. Since its inception, Delhi Chapter has done exceedingly well in meeting the aspiration of its members and has been adjusted thrice as the Best Chapter by the parent body. The Chapter has in the past-organized more than 40 one/two/three day technical seminars on various contemporary topics at diverse locations. The latest in the series were 3 days seminars at HP University, Shimla (April 2007), Summer school workshop on chromatographic techniques at Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi (sept.-2007), Nanotechnology at Jamia Hamdard, Delhi (Nov.-2007) and Seminar on Characterization of Biomolecules at Lucknow University (Aug.-2008).
Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT), Palampur, HP, is one of the youngest constituent lab of the CSIR and was established in 1983 in famous Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh. IHBT is committed to support the development of an industrial R&D base for establishment, upgradation and sustainable of bio-resources of Himalayan region through agro-technology, processing technology and biotechnology. The research pursuit of this institute resulted in developing several technologies. This has paved the way for establishing small and cottage industry in state apart from preserving rich bio-diversity structures. These laudable achievements were possible under the leadership of Dr. P.S. Ahuja, Director, IHBT and CIMAP.
The laboratories of the Institutes are well equipped with sophisticated equipments are required for undertaking world class research. Facilities are accreditated with ISO-9001/1725. |

Palampur (1249 m) is one of the leading hill states and was once a part of the kingdom of Jalandhara in Himachal Pradesh. Countless streams and brooks criss-cross the landscape and in their intricate mesh, are tea gardens and rice fields. Kangra tea, with its center at Palampur, has been internationally acclaimed. To further bless the area with remarkable natural beauty, the Dhauladhar ranges rise dramatically form the earth, just in the vicinity of Palampur. The town itself has some interesting colonial architecture and the area around is richly garnished with historical temples and forts scores of picturesque hamlets. In winter, the temperature can get quite low and woolens are required in November.
Tourist Places of interest in and around Palampur : Shimla (235 km), Kulu-Manali (200 km ), Tea Factory (1.5 km), Church of St. John (200 m), Temple of Bundlamata (2 km), Neugal Khad, Gopalpur Zoo (13 km), Chamunda Devi Temple (18 km), Andretta Home of artists (13 km), Kangra Fort (27 km), Tashijong- Tibetan Monastery (12 km), Baijnath Temple (15 km) : Bir – Tibetian monastery (24 km), and hosts of mind bogling water falls, streams and trekking routes.
